Amrit Vela

AMRIT VELA

Amrit Vela has been defined by some as the ‘hour before the dawn of the day’. These people call this hour (time) as auspicious hour. In Sikhism, there is no concept of any auspicious hour or moment. A Sikh, however, is supposed to get up as early as possible and make prayer to God before beginning his Nitnem (daily routine work). It does not mean that remembering God at other times is less auspicious. According to Sikhism, all the days, hours and moments are auspicious for remembering God. A Sikh should keep God in his mind all the time.

Remember Him while standing, sitting, sleeping (i.e. all the time).

(Guru Granth Sahib, p.386)

Listening about your nectar Name, I remember it.

I sing of your attributes all through the day and night.

(Guru Granth Sahib, p.740)
