PANNA
Some Sikhs use the term ‘Panna’ for a page or leaf of Guru Granth Sahib. Panna is a Hindi word, which has two meanings: 1. leaf (page) 2. emerald (gem).
In earlier writing of the Sikhs, the term used was ‘Patra’ and ‘Pat’ (meaning leaf) was used. Some writers also use the word ‘Ang’ (meaning organ) for a page of Guru Granth Sahib; they regard Guru Granth Sahib like human body and all its pages as organs of that body.
A page of Guru Granth Sahib may be mentioned as‘Panna’, ‘Patra’, ‘Pat’, ‘Ang’ or ‘Safaa’; it makes no difference; all these words mean page.
There is no religious or spiritual significance, and there is no taboo, in using any of these terms, and, no word is sacred or profane.
