Paarjaat (tree)

PAARJAAT

According to a myth ‘Paarjaat’ is one of the nine gems drawn from the ocean when gods and demons churned the water of the ocean.

According to another interpretation it is a mythical tree, which fulfils the wished of those who possess it.

According to another myth Paarjaat was a tree, which was known for its unique fragrance. This tree was grown in the garden of a mythical god Inder. This tree led to a major battle between the Inder and Krishna (another mythical god). According to a myth Krishna tried to forcibly take it to his state Dawarka (or tried to steal it), to please his (Krishna’s) wife Satyabhaama [according to Guru Granth Sahib he stole it from Inder’s garden to please a Gopi, his keep]. (Guru Granth Sahib, p 470).

According to Guru Granth Sahib, God alone is ‘Paarjaat’ who can fulfil any or all the wishes.
