Paalki

PAALKI

Paalki (literally: palanquin) is a wooden cabin used for carrying Guru Granth Sahib from one place to another destination.

In many Gurdwaras, it is being wrongly used as a support-cum-seat for Guru Granth Sahib. Its place is not in congregation hall as it is not a ‘throne’ but its function is only to carry Guru Granth Sahib to a destination.

Paalki is not meant for sitting or seating, though throne is meant for placing or installing of Guru Granth Sahib. In a Gurdwara, Guru Granth Sahib is installed on a ‘Peehrha’ (pedestal) or Takht (throne) and not on a Paalki.
