Jalau, Jaloos, Jalwa


JALAU

Jalau is an Arabic word. It means to reveal, pageantry, pomp, show and splendour, grandeur.

It is also used for the display and exhibition of the (precious articles).

The most important usage of this term is done for the display of the Sikh treasury at Darbar Sahib Amritsar; which is done for public, four times a year.

The terms Jalwa and Jaloos (procession) have also been derived from the word Jalau.

Jaloos/Jalus

Jaloos is an outdoor ‘jalau’, procession, pageant. During celebration of Gurpurabs, a Jaloos is generally taken out; it is led by Guru Granth Sahib.

A Jaloos can be of political nature too; in that case it is taken out to highlight some demand, problem, resentment, protest.

A Jaloos can be celebration of a victory in game, election or any other phenomenon.

In all these situation the central point is exhibition.

Jalwa

Jalwa is Glitter, splendour, pleasing glimpse or glance.
