Dharamraaj

DHARAMRAAJ

Literally: the Lord of Dharma (an attribute of God).

In Guru Granth Sahib, there are some stanzas that refer to Chitargupt, the mythical record-keeper and consul of the Dharamraaj, who presents before him (Dharamraaj) the accounts (i.e. performance of good and evil deeds) of the deceased, when a human being appears in His Court.

Guru Sahib has used this myth in order to teach virtuous actions are rewarded in the Court of Dharamraaj (God).

Some writers use this term for god of death also.
